Imagine a one-stop-online-shop where you could learn about those who are up-and-coming in fashion industry, receive public relation, branding and lookbook help and search for latest internships and careers within the industry. If this place were real, it would be life-changing. Lucky for us, it is.
In anticipation for the release of Marisa Flack's, The Style Almanac founder, new-and-improved site, I reflected on all of the ways that The Style Almanac could have benefited me in the earlier years of my blogging, wishing now that I had found as resourceful a site. For those starting off in the fashion industry, regardless of focus: designing, public relations, styling, editorial, etc., The Style Almanac has resources to benefit all creatives.
I remember like it was yesterday, logging on to Weebly to start creating my website. For me, it was a lot of fun. But I struggled with determining a color and style theme. Now, two-years-later, I can confidently say that I do have a theme. But two-years-ago, I couldn't. The Style Almanac would have been a great place for me to turn to with my branding needs. On this new release of TSA, Marisa Flacks has introduced Branding Services. Whether that's help with website creation or just the overall aesthetic and public view of who you and your brand are, branding is very important. In fashion, where there are so many people trying to breakthrough, it's important that people can differentiate you from the others so you stand out.
As much as I loved writing full-length articles about fashion when I first started my blog, I also really wanted to get into personal style blogging: a photo stream of my ensemble, a bit of writing and a "GET THE LOOK" section where pieces of my outfit would be linked. Unfortunately, I didn't have a professional photographer at that point, ** and had no means to search for one. It wasn't until after I went to college that I found a professional photographer, again, two years after starting BWAB. The Style Almanac offers photographic services based on location for bloggers, designers and stylists to use. Not only do they provide you with a photographer, but they also help you find a hair stylist, makeup artist and a photo studio or another location. The Photoshoot Coordination is the place for all your visual needs.

Brunette with a Budget: What drove you to want to start The Style Almanac?
The Style Almanac: While in college, I had been constantly interning in any part of the fashion industry that I could. However, what I started to realize was how much talent and hard work I was surrounded by, in the form of fellow interns and students. Talent that is so often overlooked because we are ‘just interns’ or ‘still students’. Being in an industry that is always evolving and changing, I felt that recognizing the talent of our generation is something important to the future of the industry, thus creating The Style Almanac as a platform and resource for the next generation of the fashion industry.
BWAB: Since starting The Style Almanac, what is the best feedback you've received from those who have used your services?
TSA: The best feedback I’ve received so far would be truly how hard it is to create a personal brand, and an online presence, while being a full time student. Finding resources such as photographers, hair stylists, photo shoot locations, etc. is very tedious and time consuming while also trying to build a professional portfolio. Being able to provide that resource for students and eliminate any amount of stress from their journey is something that seems to be greatly appreciated.
BWAB: Since many students are on a budget, what are some of the ways in which The Style Almanac helps students use the services provided without breaking the bank? I noticed you have student specials on your site.
TSA: As someone who just graduated college myself, I understand how valuable affordable resources are. The students rates are discounted and include one full semester to ensure an extended period of brand building.
BWAB: The Style Almanac has already released so many beneficial resources. What can we expect to see next from The Style Almanac?
TSA: I really want to build out our virtual showroom. Stylists seem to be extremely interested in using new designers for shoots and editorials. Having the students place their collections in a virtual showroom allows stylists and press to pull their pieces and gain exposure.
BWAB: If there is one thing you want students or professionals to know when they visit you site, what would it be?
TSA: For students, I want to site to be a safe space where they feel confident that their talent is valuable for the future of this industry. For professionals, I would hope that they recognize this value, and see that a new generation of creatives and artists are going to propel this industry forward.
