MAKEUP MUST-HAVES FOR 100° WEATHER

MAKEUP MUST-HAVES FOR 100° WEATHER

Global warming is real and at the moment, we are feeling it's effects to the maximum.  Currently, in the Midwest, the "real-feel" temperatures have been over 100°, and let me tell you, nothing is less fun than having to put makeup on and get dressed.  This horrible heat wave has not only caused fashion conundrums, in which I have become content with wearing the same silky slip dress; it's the only piece of clothing I own that doesn't make me feel like I'm about to pass out from heat exhaustion, but makeup routine has also changed drastically in order to adapt with the weather.  Nothing looks worse than a greasy face with concealer caking underneath your eyes and foundation slipping off of your face.  When the weather is warm as can be, choosing the right makeup to wear and the right type of application is essential,  I am by no means a makeup professional, but I have learned a few tips-and-tricks which help me conquer the sweaty face.

FOR YOUR FACE

I love the kind of face makeup that after you put it on, hardly looks like you're wearing any.  Which is why I swear by a BB Cream.  BB Creams are the ultimate face product; they're loaded with ingredients that help even your complexion, hydrate your skin and protect it from the sun.  I tend to have very oily skin, and after being disappointed time-after-time because of the tendency for BB Creams to create a "dewy" effect, I decided to give up my previous favorite BB Cream in search for another.  While I was shopping at Ulta, I was helped by a lady at the professional beauty counter who recommended me to Tarte's BB Cream (side note: Tarte is vegan-friendly and cruelty-free, yay!).  After using it for one day, which included a full day of work, a walk downtown and a late-night workout, all in a day where the temperature was above 100°: my face was shine-free.  It was amazing.  While the price for this product is a bit much, I only need a pea-sized amount of product to cover my face; it's well worth the price point.  But in addition to the BB Cream itself, I also prep my skin for application beforehand.  I use a moisturizer with SPF in it in order to protect my skin even further from the sun's harmful UV rays.  After applying that product, I put on a thin layer of oil-free and oil-absorbing primer to insure that my makeup not only stays on all day, but also stays shine free.

MY STEP-BY-STEP APPLICATION PROCESS

- STEP NO.1 -
Generously apply moisturizer with SPF to your entire face, applying in an upward motion to insure absorption into skin.

- STEP NO.2 -
Apply a thin layer of oil-free primer to your entire face in a downward motion to seal-off pores.  Especially make sure that you apply the primer to your t-zone and other areas where you typically breakout or see shine.

- STEP NO.3 -
Take a pea-sized amount of BB Cream on your finger and dot product around your face.  Using a foundation brush (instead of a beauty blender, you'll end up not wasting your product), brush product all over face in a downward motion.

- STEP NO.4 -
Finish off look by lightly blotting powder over your entire face, focusing on the t-zone.

FOR YOUR EYES

No matter what time of year it is, I always think that a little bit of eyeshadow is necessary.  Eyeshadow — depending on the colors you decide to use — can brighten your eyes or deepen your look.  In summer, my favorite colors to use are champange, gold and nude.  Since these colors are lighter, a sleek black winged eye, created with liquid eyeliner, really helps to make the look pop.  But even with eye makeup comes the need to prime beforehand in order to ensure the look stays on all day without creating greasy lids.  My favorite eyelid primer is by Laura Geller from her Spackle collection.  The product comes with two different shades, nude and white.  In the summer, I love using the white primer to help my eyeshadow look very vibrant!  The consistency of the product is tacky, so it's the perfect product to apply when the weather is humid.  My two favorite eyelid products are the LORAC Pro Palette and the E.L.F liquid eyeliner.  Both of these are cruelty-free and they work amazing in the summertime heat and humidity.

MY STEP-BY-STEP APPLICATION PROCESS

- STEP NO.1 -
Gently pat and blend primer to entire eyelid to ensure both the eyeshadow and eyeliner stay on all day.

- STEP NO.2 -
Using a flat-top shader brush, pat eyeshadow of your choice onto lid.  Use a lighter color such as nude, champagne or gold.

- STEP NO.3 -
Using a tapered blending brush, take either a mauve or taupe color and blend it into the crease to add definition.

- STEP NO.4 -
Create a think or thin wing using liquid liner on your upper lashline to open up eyes.

- STEP NO.5 -
Apply a few coats of dark black mascara.

for your lips

I know I said that there's nothing worse than a greasy face, but honestly, chapped lips might take the cake.  I'm not one to talk though, seeing as my lips are burnt and chapped to the max.  But, I am slowly remedying them by using my absolute favorite chapstick from Blistex.  I've been using this product for what seems like forever, and no matter how many times I turn away from it, I keep going back.  Every night and every morning, I apply this bad-bod to my lips for late-night hydration and early-morning repairs before I apply lipstick.  This product in particular includes SPF, which will protect your lips from getting burnt, which, can happen believe-it-or-not.  While chapstick is essential for healthy hydrated lips, so is the use of a moisturizing lipstick.  I have never been a fan of liquid lipstick because of it's tendency to dry your lips out, which is why I adore Finding Ferdinand's lip products.  They're creamy, long-lasting and are super pigmented.  And, for an added bonus, can be customly created and named (the lipstick I'm wearing is called "With a Budget," my custom lip color).  By applying both a chapstick and a moisturizing lipstick, your lips will be luscious and full of color.

MY STEP-BY-STEP APPLICATION PROCESS

- STEP NO.1 -
Apply a generous coat of chapstick to both your upper and lower lips.

- STEP NO.2 -
Taking your custom lip color from Finding Ferdinand, apply the lipstick to your lips.

- STEP NO.3 -
Finish off by blotting your lips to create a matte effect and ensure the product stays on all day!
