3 THINGS TO DO BEFORE SCHOOL STARTS
Sadly, summer is ending. Which means it is time to fully embrace the last couple weeks of summer by filling the days with adventurous and spontaneous activities. So grab your gals, fam, or anyone you can spend more than 5 minutes with, and embark on the most thrilling last weeks of no homework.
MAKE YOUR WAY DOWNTOWN
I am lucky enough to have grown up in a town that is only 45 minutes away from a major city. So, if you're like me -- even if you're not, but have a large town close to where you live -- plan a day to go exploring to different, yet safe parts of the city/town that you've never been before! Make a day out of it and grab lunch a low-key, yet delicious restaurant.
WHAT TO WEAR? NO WORRIES.
Hit up Nasty Gal for effortless chic, yet comfortable pieces that will capture any city dwellers eye.
Sporty pieces are a MUST for the city. You're able to look practical, but still chic without overdoing it. Asymmetrical skirts are perfect because they spice up the look and add contrast with the sneakers. Since the weather might be turning cooler, pair the skirt with a breathable sweater to add some warmth.
WORKING HARD OR WORKING OUT?
I love a good bike ride in the summer. And even if you're not one to LOVE working out, bike rides are a good way to people watch and experience your town in a new way. Try riding in a new sub-division to scope out the most unique homes. Or, bike around a local forest preserve to get a breath of fresh air. Regardless of where you go, bike rides are a good way to stay active and enjoy the scenery.
WHAT TO WEAR? NO WORRIEs.
Hit up Forever 21 for athletic-wear that is incredibly affordable yet still trendy.
Athletic-wear doesn't have to make your sweaty body look even more unattractive. I am a huge fan of fashionable sportswear. Running tights with a unique pattern are a must, because they give a typical looking legging a little more flair. Strappy sports bras paired with simple racerback tanks are a great option because they're practical. As for shoes, instead of splurging on Nike's, opt for a nice knockoff brand, like the ones I found from Target (psst, they're on sale).
EMBRACE YOUR INNER NERD
Before I get pummelled with hate about how "reading isn't only for nerds", let me be the first to say that IT'S A JOKE, and I happen to love reading (but ya girl needs to stay with the funny headlines theme). Summer is the perfect time to read "f-u-n" and brain numbing books, because you have more free time and you aren't stuck reading school-required content -- and if you are, make some time for an easy read!
WHAT TO READ? NO WORRIES.
Here are some of my favorites...
1) WEAR THIS NOW: The ultimate style book if you want fashion tips and tricks that are painless to achieve and won't break your bank!
2) THE SUMMER I TURNED PRETTY TRILOGY: Hands down my favorite series. If you want a relaxing read for a nice warm day at the beach, or for a rainy summer day in bed, this is for you.
3) TWENTY BOY SUMMER: A sad romance that makes you want to cry, but also warms your heart at the same time.
Obviously I'm a sucker for a good fashion read and romance novels. But even if these books aren't necessarily your cup-of-tea, I suggest heading to your local library and browsing through all of the "hot" books... you're bound to find something that tickles your fancy!
