DEAL OR NO DEAL?
Ah, the holiday shopping rush. There's nothing quite like it. The hustle and bustle of shoppers looking for their wants to be on sale. But regardless of the price or where-abouts of the item you're searching so hard for, some stores will have fab deals and some will have no deals.
As a shopaholic myself, I decided to go out the day after Christmas in search for some sales. My main goal was to find a pair of Tory Burch Reva flats for an unbeatable price. I decided to first hit-up the Fashion Outlets of Chicago.
Though I assumed that not many people would be out shopping in spite of wanting to spend time with their families, I was terribly wrong. There was a long line just to get into the parking garage of the mall and there were hardly any parking spots open. So I ditched that venue.
The next stop was the closer outlet mall, Chicago Premium Outlets, which feature stores such as Kate Spade, J.Crew, and Dooney and Burke. I was excited because even though I was not going to find my designer flats, I was going to be able to raid J.Crew.
Even bigger mistake.
It was so unbelievably crowded at this mall, that they had traffic control officers standing outside just to maintain all of the cars and craziness. After feeling a bit let down by this failed outlet mall shopping experience, I decided that my "spending money vibe" would not be killed, and I would indeed take on THE MALL.
My first stop was Macy's. Being a fashionista who is obsessed with Free People, Macy's has always been the best place to go to buy the (overpriced) brand. Luckily, I was more than right about this on this specific day. The Free People section at Macy's had 65% off their entire line. I was sold.
Though I did not do as much damage as I thought I would at Macy's, I ended up getting a sweet deal on a mock turtleneck top that I had been eyeing for quite some time.
Since I still wanted to shop more, but had run out of stores to go to, I decided to do the next best thing: online shop.
The next day -- as I was too tired to do anymore shopping that particular day -- I decided to hop on my computer, scroll through my email, and search for the best online deals. And I was more than surprised.
J.Crew factory, Madewell, Anthropologie, Free People, and Tobi were all having amazing deals. I was able to shop easily without being caught in traffic or shoving poor souls out of the way in order to get the clothing item that I wanted. Instead, I was able to sit in the comfort of my own home (a/k/a bed), and shop till I dropped (or fell asleep in this case).
Out of all the places that were having sales, I decided that J.Crew Factory and Madewell were the best places for me to shop for quality clothes that would last me a lifetime. Both stores were have 25-40% off clearance and sale items. I know that for some of you, the word 'clearance' freaks you out, merely because you assume you're going to get a crap piece of clothing. Wrong. I was able to find sweet deals on great items.
In the long run, I was able to save money and time because I wasn't waiting in a long line just to get into the mall. I was able to find exactly what I wanted at great prices. So this holiday break, make sure you hit the Internet before you hit the road and wait in long lines that will cause your money to rot before you even walk into the main entrance.
